This
afternoon saw the teams bring three days of testing to a close
here at the Silverstone circuit, which hosts the British Grand
Prix a week Sunday.
Reigning
world champion Kimi Raikkonen was at the wheel of the F2008 today
for Ferrari as the Finnish driver continued with the work
initiated over the past couple of days by team-mate Felipe Massa,
focussed mainly on the development of new aerodynamic and
mechanical solutions, as well as research into the best set up for
the car for next weekend’s race at this track.
Today
was however affected by several interruptions caused by cars
stranded out on track. Raikkonen was third fastest on the day with
his 13th lap of 60 proving the quickest. He set a time of 1:20.321
minutes and had a gap of 1.151 seconds on Lewis Hamilton with that.
The McLaren Mercedes driver was the fastest man on track today
with a lap time of 1:19.170 minutes.
“I
am pleased with the way testing went,” Raikkonen stated before
leaving the circuit. “Obviously it is far too early to say where
we can be on this track compared to our main rivals, but I can see
no reason why we should not be competitive.”
