The
Qualifying of the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal proceeded a
little disappointing for Kimi Räikkönen. After the good results
in the previous practice sessions Kimi had to be content today
with the third starting place in the grid.
Kimi
wasn't on the top of the field already in the the first and second
part of the Qualifying. With lap time of 1:17.301 minutes in Q1
and 1:17.364 minutes in Q2 he achieved the fourth and third
position, while Lewis Hamilton was the fastest man on track in
both sessions. The McLaren driver distant Kimi by 0.4 or 0.3
seconds at this.
Lewis
Hamilton then also set the pace in the third part of the
Qualifying. With an amazing lap time of 1:17.886 minutes he
snatched the pole position in Montreal like already in the last
year. The second placed BMW Sauber driver Robert Kubica already
had a gap of 0.612 seconds on the Brit. Kimi even was 0.849
seconds slower with his time of 1:18.735 minutes. However, he was
able to beat his team mate Felipe Massa very clearly. The
Brazilian achieved only the sixth starting place behind Nico
Rosberg (P5) and Fernando Alonso (P4) with a time of 1:19.048
minutes.
"It's
unbelievable how much time I lost at turn ten, lap after lap. The
track was already beginning to break up in Q1 and I had no drive:
it was like driving on ice and I never managed to find the right
line at this point. It's a real shame because the car was going
very well and I could have fought for pole position. I can't
understand how things like this can happen: maybe it's down to the
higher temperatures, or a repair job at this point not done
properly but one thing's certain, in the race tomorrow, it will be
very difficult to get through here. But the situation is not that
bad. We are quick, as could be seen all weekend long up to
qualifying and starting on the clean side of the track is
definitely a good thing. Let's wait and see what happens tomorrow."
