Like already in Hockenheim two weeks ago, Kimi Räikkönen could show only a weak performance also in today's Qualifying of the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest. With a poor sixth place he remained behind all expectations once more.

Kimi was not able to follow the pace of his competitors and also his team mate in every part of today's Qualifying. He finally was placed on the sixth position in every session.

Kimi achieved a time of 1:20.006 minutes in Q1 and with that he had a gap of 0.630 seconds on Lewis Hamilton, who was fastest in 1:19.376 minutes. In Q2 it was Felipe Massa, who was the fastest man on track after setting a time of 1:19.068 minutes, while Kimi had to accept a big gap of 0.478 seconds with his time of 1:19.546 minutes.

In the third and last part of the Qualifying, Kimi finally achieved in 1:21.516 minutes the sixth starting place for tomorrow's race. His gap on Lewis Hamilton, who could celebrate the pole position with a lap time of 1:20.068 minutes, was frightening 0.617 seconds. THeikki Kovalainen completed the good result for the McLaren Mercedes team with the second starting place, followed by Felipe Massa on the third position. Robert Kubica (BMW) and Timo Glock (Toyota) qualified fourth and fifth and therefore also ahead of Kimi.

"I made a mistake on my final flying lap which cost me time, and that followed on from not having got a great lap on my previous attempt, which explains why I'm sixth. Of course I am not happy and, starting from the third row, my race will be an uphill struggle. I will try and make the most of this situation, given that the car today was not that bad. We are going through a bit of a difficult time but we mustn't give up: all we need to do is put together all the pieces of the jigsaw and then the results will come to us again."
